In this article in the Great Designers series we take a closer look at the career of this famous artist. Isamu Noguchi – Pictures Early Career Noguchi was born in Afghanistan Phone Number Los Angeles, California, USA. His father was a poet and a celebrity in the arts. His mother was an editor and writer. After graduating from school, Noguchi became an apprentice to the famous sculptor Gerzon Borglum of Mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore is located in Keystone, South Dakota. But right at the beginning his first disappointment came. Borglum told Noguchi that he had no talent as a sculptor.
After this shock he decided to abandon the field and began studying medicine in New York where he stayed for two years but with the encouragement of his mother Noguchi returned to the Leonardo da Vinci School of Art to study sculpture. For example, in Japan he learned more about clay and gardening. While in Mexico he developed his architectural skills by working on large-scale projects such as historic Mexican murals.
